How to Raise $40,000 and have fun at the same time!

Over 500 adults and kids participated in our Cleveland, Ohio fundraiser: The Summer Scurry, held on Saturday, August 15, 2009.
Consisting of a chip-timed 10K race, 5K walk/fun, 1 mile Family Fun Run and lots of fun activities for kids, the Scurry took full advantage of the hot, dry August weather.
Water and popsicle station volunteers made sure our runners and walkers stayed cool.
Volunteers from the Independence Volleyball Team and many others guided participants throughout the course and welcomed racers at the finish line.
Ohers manned the kids craft area, face painting and tattoo stations, making sure the youngsters kept smiling.
The inflatables were a big hit and Magic Mike delighted kids and parents alike with his masterful balloon creations. Ice cream treats were enjoyed by all.
There were also lots of smiles when over 30 raffle prize winners collected prizes - ranging from $20 Target gift cards to a $500 teeth whitening and sonic toothbrush system donated by Rockside Family Dental in Independence.
The Summer Scurry team wishes to thank the following corporate sponsors for their monetary and product donations. Your support enabled this event to be both fun and successful. Thank you!
Panera Bread - for donating of bagels and discount coupons for racers
Acme Grocery - for donating bananas for racers
Waid's Rentals - for donating portable toilets on the grounds

We are also extremely grateful to the corporate sponsors of the Summer Scurry. Please patronize these generous and community-oriented companies as much as possible. http://ennect.com/e644/p4439.aspx
We couldn't have had a successful event without the hard work of all who planned the race and over 100 individuals who volunteered their time before and during race day.
Many helped to set up the course, register the walkers/runners, prepare the race packets, request donations, helped with the raffle, and much more. What a great team of people!
The Summer Scurry planning team consisted of a very talented, hardworking and passionate group of individuals: Lisa DiGeronimo, Jen Guinto, Joe DiGeronimo, Jennie Misso, Karin Kurtz, Nicki Lee, Mary Dolejs, Michelle DiGeronimo. Thank you so much for all you did to plan and prepare for the Scurry. You should be so proud of what you accomplished and how smoothly everything went for this first time event.
Last, but not least, thank you to all the participants of the first Summer Scurry. The event was all worth it because of you! We hope you had some fun and that you will consider joining us again next year on Saturday August 14, 2010.
We promise you'll find improvements in many areas and we welcome your feedback in helping us do so.
Together, we raised over $40,000 to benefit PMP Research Foundation, 100% of which will fund research for Pseudomyxoma Peritonei (PMP), a cancer affecting the abominal region.
We can't thank you enough.
Now a few words from one of the founders of PMP Research Foundation, the non profit which benefited from the Summer Scurry:
As one of the founders of PMP Research Foundation, I want each of you to know how grateful I am and how much your hard work and financial contributions mean to me and to everyone battling PMP.
Funding research for this presently incurable cancer is what gives me - and many others with this disease - hope for the future. It also honors the many individuals who have lost their lives to this awful disease.
As I mentioned on race day, "Everyone with cancer deserves the hope of a cure."
Thank you so much for being a part of the cure - and for the hope you offer to each one of us with PMP. May God bless you!
Sincerely,
Lisa Kurtz Luciano
