Beginning on February 21st through March 7th 2012, The PMP Research Foundation will be holding an online auction via Bidding for Good to raise much needed funds for PMP Cancer Research and Education. Please visit the PMP Research Foundation Auction site to learn more.
Fellow PMP patient and documentary filmmaker Deborah Walker plans to create a documentary about Appendix Cancer and PMP called "The Secret Cancer". Deborah and her partner/husband Jonathan Cunningham are seeking patients and caregivers who are willing to be interviewed so they can share their experiences with Appendix Cancer and PMP for the documentary.

Thanks to all who joined us for the Third Annual Summer Scurry in Independence, Ohio. The event was once again a huge success, raising $84,000 for PMP research.
Brenda Carawan was selected as one of 90 athletes from around the world to compete in the Badwater Ultramarathon on July 11, 2011. Recognized as “the world’s toughest foot race,” athletes ran 135 miles nonstop from Badwater, Death Valley (-282 ft) to Mount Whitney Portal (8360 ft). Brenda ran the race in honor of her friend who has Pseudomyxoma Peritonei (PMP), a rare form of abdominal cancer. Using the race to build awareness and raise money for PMP, all donations will go directly to The PMP Research Foundation. The PMP Research Foundation held it's first annual PMP Symposium on June 19, 2010 at Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland, PA.
Speakers included:
Armando Sardi, M.D., F.A.C.S., internationally renowned surgical oncologist, serves as the director of The Institute for Cancer Care at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore, as well as the director of the Institute’s Surgical Oncology Division.
Laura Lambert, M.D., is an Assistant Professor and the Director of the Peritoneal Surface Malignancy Program at the University of Massachusetts Memorial Medical Center.
Steven Ahrendt, M.D., F.A.C.S., is an Associate Professor in Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh, Division of Surgical Oncology. Dr. Ahrendt specializes in the surgical management of gastrointestinal malignancies and other gastrointestinal disorders with an interest in PMP and carcinomatosis. His research interests include the use of molecular screening techniques for cancer detection.
Laurie Todd, The Insurance Warrior is an author, teacher, and insurance strategist. From 2006 through 2010, Laurie has helped dozens of people to overturn denials of care - many insurers, many conditions and diseases, all over the United States. Seeking to help more patients and medical providers, Laurie secured the backing of a major cancer research foundation, and published her book, Fight Your Health Insurer and Win. Laurie’s latest book, The Sample Appeal: More Insurance Warrior Wisdom is about how to write winning insurance appeals. Her book explains the basic principles of dealing with insurance bureaucracies and lays the groundwork for writing an appeal.
